Candidate care and experience, Japan
We operate in Japan’s complex recruitment landscape, focusing on white-collar placements across technology, automotive, chemicals, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, finance, and professional services.
We place permanent and contract/temp roles with an average salary of ¥8.5–9 million (~£50,000). Japan’s jobs market is mostly domestic with some international at around 5%. We have built dedicated teams: native Japanese speakers for domestic clients and bilingual consultants for international.
Candidates are attracted via LinkedIn, our website and referrals. In the domestic market, job boards like BizReach dominate. These require strict compliance with fees to be paid if a placement results from a job board interaction. We implemented a four-step audit process for transparency.
Japan’s refund-based model means early resignations can trigger full or partial fee returns. Our structured aftercare includes pre-start, start-day, follow up check-ins. Consultants are trained to detect early dissatisfaction and intervene when needed. Candidate Success Specialists manage welfare for temp workers, supported by managers as needed.
If a placed candidate raises an issue, we act quickly. Contracting issues may escalate to senior leaders or legal counsel. Permanent issues are handled by consultants and managers, with escalation for credit risk mitigation. Our team will engage directly with clients to resolve concerns.
All consultants complete a 12-week on-boarding programme which includes candidate care. Additional support comes from our International Delivery Centre in Malaysia, which assists with aftercare, reference checks, and admin tasks.
We maintain strong governance, with minimal exposure to modern slavery risks. Japan’s strict labour laws include overtime regulations.
