The number of jobs for sales & marketing talent is likely to rise this quarter along with an increase in employer expectations on the recruitment of job seekers, according to recruitment experts Hays.
The Hays Quarterly Report tracks recruitment trends in Malaysia and reveals that sales & marketing talent in greatest demand over April to June are product managers, international export sales professionals and digital marketers.
“These are the candidates in particularly strong demand but the overall market for sales & marketing talent in Malaysia this quarter is positive, says Tom Osborne, Regional Director of Hays in Malaysia.
“However while demand for talent is high, so are the expectations of employers particularly in FMCG and pharmaceutical organisations looking for new product managers where the successful candidate could be working with a company’s leading brand,” says Tom.
“To land the role, product manager candidates must be able to cite examples from their career history of how they have worked effectively with a sales team to develop service solutions,” Tom says.
Employers also want to know that a candidate understands the crucial role they would play in achieving cost efficiencies and pricing if they land the job. Employers are leaving nothing to chance and introducing candidate assessment tools including written tests and personality testing to the recruitment process.
Meanwhile, the weaker ringgit has seen many Malaysian companies explore other regions to increase revenue. This is generating demand for export/international sales managers who have had prior experience in creating new distribution channels.
Not surprisingly, digital marketers remain in strong demand too as Malaysian companies move away from using traditional marketing methods.
“The successful candidate should be able to impress a potential employer with their extensive knowledge of all aspects of digital marketing,” says Tom.
“Employers want candidates proficient in creating and deploying online strategies to attract new customers as well as using digital and data tools to track, understand and engage potential customers. Plus, the successful candidate will need to keep across what their competitors are doing” says Tom.
