Loyal Irish stay with employers for over five years

63% of Irish employees said they believe in job loyalty and would stay with their employer for at least five years, according to a recent survey conducted by leading Irish recruitment company, Hays Ireland.

470 employees were asked the question “Do you believe in job loyalty?” on Hays.ie.  Responses were collected over a period of six weeks.

22% of respondents were slightly less committed and said that though they did believe in job loyalty, they would stay with their employer for up to five years.

However, the remaining 15% said they would only stay with an employer for up to two years, preferring to change jobs frequently.

Irish employees are broadly similar to their British counterparts.

According to the parallel survey of 1,000 people on Hays.co.uk, 65% believed in staying with a company for at least five years; 22% for up to five years; and 13% for up to two years.

Richard Eardley, Managing Director at Hays Ireland, said: “Our survey shows that businesses must contend with a variety of attitudes to work and company loyalty. While the majority are seemingly happy to stay with a company for more than five years, a significant percentage would move on sooner.

“Having the right employee perks can help you keep valuable and ambitious people in the long term. Many particularly progressive employers are moving away from company-wide benefits and looking at personalised or team-specific packages that suit individuals and small groups. While health insurance or a fuel allowance will suit some, others will prefer flexi-time, remote working or a greater work-life balance.  It’s vital to take these differences into account when hiring and retaining talent.”
