Multinationals and large Chinese companies are likely to be competing for the best accounting & finance talent this quarter, according to recruiting experts Hays.

The latest Hays Quarterly Report reveals a rising number of roles are coming to market especially in the areas of compliance/control, commercial financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and FP&A business partnering.

MNCs are certainly leading the hiring charge, but we are also seeing strong interest from very large Chinese companies too,” says Simon Lance, Managing Director of Hays in China.

The good news for Chinese employers is that many candidates now working in MNCs are showing increasing interest in taking their next career step with those Chinese companies planning to expand their operations both here and globally,” says Simon.

Employers looking to fill compliance/control-based roles strongly favour candidates with Big 4 and corporate experience able to introduce good processes especially compliance processes aligned to both global and local standards,” he says.

Talent to fill FP&A business partner roles are also in strong demand this quarter to help companies identify cost savings and revenue opportunities.

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate they are business savvy and possess a successful history of working with sales and marketing departments using data analytics to inform the advice they provide to a business.”

Excellent English language skills remain high on the wish list of many companies recruiting this quarter due to the number of regional roles available. Soft skills in general are important including the power to persuade, collaborate and also communicate with people at all levels of the organisation as well as internal and external clients.

The good news for employers is our research shows candidates are keen to test the market this quarter,” says Simon.

Many candidates that received their annual bonus are restless for a new challenge, but we are also seeing strong interest from talent currently working in a slow growing or declining industry who are now seeking to join an organisation positioned for growth and profit.”
