Hays in Sheffield host charity ball raising over £6,500 for brain tumour research

24 July 2015

UK

On Friday 3 July, Tony Stevens from Hays in Sheffield, hosted a charity ball at the Mecure Sheffield St Paul’s hotel raising over £6,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity. The evening consisted of a three-course dinner for the 200 guests in attendance, charity auction, and was followed by entertainment from top comedian Hal Cruttenden all to fundraise for the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting brain tumours.

Tony Stevens, Senior Manager at Hays in Sheffield, was inspired to host the ball after the other successful fundraising events of his Hays colleagues and wanted to end a very successful two-year charity partnership on a glamorous note.

Commenting on the success of the event, Tony said: “I was so proud to host this ball, it’s such an important cause and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came. The atmosphere on the night was very fun and relaxed thanks to the excellent comedy from Hal Cruttenden. I’m particularly grateful to Francesca Towson from The Brain Tumour Charity who spoke at the event about the work that the charity has already achieved through Hays’ support and also what more needs to be done. Finally I would like to thank all of the Hays staff who assisted me, a true team effort and I couldn’t of done it without them.”

Tony and his colleagues from Yorkshire raised nearly £6,700 through selling tables at the ball and holding a charity auction on the night.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, yet less than 2% of cancer research funding goes on brain tumours in the UK. The Brain Tumour Charity is the UK’s largest dedicated brain tumour charity, committed to fighting brain tumours on all fronts. They fund pioneering research to increase survival and improve treatment options as well as raising awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours to bring about earlier diagnosis. The Charity also provides support for everyone affected so that they can live as full a life as possible, with the best quality of life.

Louise Taylor, The Charity’s Director of Fundraising, said: “We are grateful for all the efforts made by our incredible fundraisers and thank them for hosting the charity ball in Sheffield – we hope they’re now enjoying a well-earned rest!

“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years. We are leading the way in changing this by fighting brain tumours on all fronts.

“We receive no government funding and rely 100% on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of people like Tony that we can change these shocking statistics in the future.”
